Phedre and Inara never finished their conversation, and I was wondering how we should set up the IC interview. If you want to handwave some things, I am find with that.

The biggest piece of concrit I can offer is that you stop having Inara refer to her employees as sex workers. We see throughout Firefly that (in their realm) she views her job as noble and more than just sex (companionship, etc). When you have her use 'sex workers' as a phrase, she might as well just call them prostitutes because it holds the same negative connotation and she would know that.

There are two reasons that she does this: The first is basic functionality. When she talks about the jobs she has available, she had learned to be as clear as possible about what the roles involve. When she uses euphemistic terms people come in looking for a job and are shocked to learn that it's a position that involves sex, or people think that the security and groundskeeping positions involve sex also which isn't the case. Calling the position, at least in formal terms, "sex workers" is the clearest yet least pejorative phrase for the job compared to "hookers" "whores" "prostitutes" or something in Chinese that most people wouldn't understand.

So why not "Companions"? For one it's not crystal clear, and also Inara doesn't consider her workers to be Companions in the least. For all that she is intensely protective towards them, in canon she refers to Nandi's employees as "whores". When Mal calls her out on it she emphasizes the differences between their roles and says "the term applies". We see this again in the Serenity movie, where she is training well to do young women but says that "they are not Companions." They weren't Academy trained from a young age. It's a distinction that she's a little snobbish about, and she has never attempted to try and train her workers in being anything like a Companion because that's not what the people of Atia need.
