Date: 2012-03-10 03:50 pm (UTC)Phedre and Inara never finished their conversation, and I was wondering how we should set up the IC interview. If you want to handwave some things, I am find with that.

For all that she is intensely protective towards them, in canon she refers to Nandi's employees as "whores". When Mal calls her out on it she emphasizes the differences between their roles and says "the term applies". We see this again in the Serenity movie, where she is training well to do young women but says that "they are not Companions." They weren't Academy trained from a young age. It's a distinction that she's a little snobbish about, and she has never attempted to try and train her workers in being anything like a Companion because that's not what the people of Atia need.
I am curious what term you think she would use?
